Folders open in a new window

I tried to change the icon for file folders from the "Folder options...>File types" list (in Windows Explorer) by clicking Advanced>Change icon. It didn't work, but now folders ALWAYS open in a new window when I click on them, even though the option in "Folder options...>General" is set to open in the same window.
I did change the icon back to the original %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll folder icon, but it didn't help. I heard the solution was in regedit... can someone help me?

have you scanned for spyware?
