Ok, I am about to get my server delievered to me and I am going to install linux 9.0 on the new server. I am going to be running web hosting off of it and game servers off of it.
I am new to the DNS part of the server setting up since I have never done it before. I was wonding what is the best way to set that up?
And guides or tuts or you can tell me how would be great.
Thanks
Frank
Linux and DNS setup
All right. The newest version of Linux is 2.6.10. They use a different numbering system than Microsoft uses for Windows NT. So you are obviously not planning on using Linux 9, unless you have a time machine. If you do, I wouldn't mind a copy of it.
If you meant Red Hat 9, just choose to install all the server programs when you go through setup. If you mean Suse 9, you can just install your DNS software through the program Yast once it's installed. If you mean Slackware 9, you might end up using some rpm's or compiling it from source (which is btw not that hard). If you mean Mandrake 9, see Slackware 9. If you mean Debian 9, see the time machine comment in paragraph one, and once again, I wouldn't mind a copy of it. Debian is currently at 3.0.
Once you get your DNS software installed, give the configuration a go and see what happens. If you need help, return here and ask for it.
