LG GCC-4521B (Bios detects 80 instead of 40 conductor cable)

Post by irvine »

Good Day M8s,

I just bought an LG optical drive with the ff datails:

Manufacturer: LG Electronics (made in korea)
Model: GCC-4521B
Features: write: 52x=cd-r write / 32x=cd-rw write. read: 52x=max cd-rom read / 16x=max dvd-rom read.
Standard Enhanced-IDE/ATAPI Interface.
2MB Buffer Memory with buffer underrun prevention Technology.

My rig that i just built has these details:

Motherboard: Intel Original D865GBF with 800MHZ FSB & Hyper-Threading Technology support.
CPU: Intel Original Boxed Prescott P4 3.0E-GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology support.
System Memory: Dual Channel DDR400/PC3200 512MB X2 = 1024MB.
System Disk: PATA Connection: Maxtor 6Y080L0; 80GB, 7200RPM(80-conductor IDE-cable) Primary Master(no slave connected)
Optical Drive: PATA Connection: LG GCC-4521B (40-conductor IDE-cable) Secondary Master(no slave connected)
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2

The problem I encountered is that the BIOS detects an 80-conductor IDE-cable instead of 40-conductor IDE-cable by which i am using a 40-conductor IDE-cable. Sometimes I encountered failure during CD-writing process using NERO Burning software ver6.0. I've replaced the Motherboard with a new one with same model as well as the Optical drive with same model as well. I've tried changing cable also. I've got the latest update of BIOS and as well as the latest firmware version of LG GCC-4521B ver1.05. But still got the same problem.

Can anybody help me with these regards :?:

Thanks a lot M8s...

LG GCC-4521B BIOS Detects 80 instead of 40 conductor cable

Hi m8 Tebow2000, I don't know what version it is though, I'm using the normal 40 conductor IDE ribbon cable. I tried installing a Lite-on dvd combo with same cable, and the BIOS detects perfectly/exactly 40 conductors.

Replacing same unit (LG GCC-4521B) with a new one, and updating the firmware did not help.

Has anyone encountered this problem and please share their solutions to me?

Thanks a lot m8s,

It sounds like a compatibility problem with your motherboard and optical drive, I would suggest returning the drive, or selling it and buying a drive that does work.
