is this a software or hardware problem?

Post by bronto »

i replaced my power supply recently and now when i turn on computer i get the message: Stop: 0X0000007E (0X000001D, 0X809F6512, 0XF8FFB58C, 0XF8FFB2) can't find it anywhere on google, but i think it's a hardware error because it reads the install discs fine, but as soon as it goes to the screen where it copies files to the hard drive, it fails. when i try to start in safe mode, it just goes blank and restarts. i connected everything with the power supply correctly, and i recently replaced hard drive and have used it before i switched power supplies. what the hell? please help.

What size power supply did you install? Is it more wattage than the older one?

it's 230 watt, it's a replacement part not an upgrade. so it can't be that. everyone knows it's a stop error but no one knows what it means after that. how can i find out? i doubt it's the hard drive because i just replaced that and have used it. i might have bumped something on the motherboard when i was plugging the supply...could that be it??

Did you get the new power supply from the manufacturer, or from a local store? I have heard from some people (not pro's by any means).. that some computer manufacturers have reversed wiring.
Double check the the actual wiring to make sure the colors are the same going into the white connectors (Molex connectors) or use a volt meter to verify the voltages are the same.

Not sure if this could be the propblem or not, but it's easy and worth a shot. There is always the chance that the new power supply is defective, been there done that :(

well i do have a volt meter but i don't know where it is and i can't be bothered. your theory sounds the best. i can get to bios but for some reason i can't use the xp disc to start up, and windows just won't start. it really doesn't seem like a hardware problem but a software problem doesn't explain not being able to reinstall. maybe i will return the supply i just bought. the brand is HIPRO...is that brand known for being crap or what? any other ideas are appreciated.

I personally have naver heard of HiPro power supplies, and I can gaurentee you they are nowhere close to the best.. and that is not my opinion :)
You said that the power supply you bought, or had with the system was a 230W unit. Might not be a bad idea to get something with a bit more ass behind it... say, 350+ watts as a minimum. I'm not sure how old/new your computer is.. but I would never consider putting a 230W in anyones computer, ever.
With todays new HDDs, CPUs, video cards, DvD burners, CD Burners etc.. power consumption is not an option. It is a neccessity.

I have an Antec TRUE550watt power supply, and I have found myself sitting here at times wondering if it is enough.

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C000BF93 in VxD VMM(01) + 0000AF93. This was called from 0028:C000BF85 in VxD VMM (01) + 0000F85.
