First of all I am a newbie DeLuxe. Certainly no tech. I had an NEC 8X burner in an older computer that worked fine. Just slow. I had my tech build me a super computer with an AMD 64 bit chip, 1 gig RAM, the whole nine yards, and a top shelf video card. I wanted to play Doom 3 without hesitation. Also I wanted to be able to burn DVDs faster. The tech installed a LiteOn DVDRW 1633S which was burning full length movies to my Verbatim +R 8X blanks at a blazing speed of 18-20 minutes total read and write. I ran out of +R and bought Verbatim -R since some of my burns would not work on some players. I was hopeful that -R would do better. After about a week, it started slowing to 30 minutes. Then a day later to an hour. Then quickly down to one hour just to read, then it failed to write. I had been on the net, but very little and downloaded nothing. Added no hardware and only loaded the Doom3 game. I disabled the antivirus software, but no success.
I took the thing back to my tech who replaced the burner with another new one, without success. He did all the tweaking and changing, still nothing. I went back to try burning on my old burner/computer and now it's gone belly up too! A new 1633S in my old computer would not work either! I tried installing another new 1633S in my office computer and had no luck there! RATS! The tech says that he has never had a 1633S go bad much less two or three in a row. I even downloaded the new firmware from LiteOn (whatever firmware is) No Luck!
I have ICopyDVDs2, iClickDVDCopy, DVD X Copy Platinum, and none of these work in any of my machines. I have even tried to slow the speed down on the burner, but still get the same "Write failed" error and "WriteSector failed" "Illegal request, Invalid Address for write"
Anyone have any ideas. You all seem so bright and I am so dumb in this area. I have checked the IDE and the DMA settings and all seem to be correct. (I don't have a clue as to what they are or do, that is just some of the limited info I gleaned from the crappy LiteOn website) I believe the probs burning with my new computer started at the same time that I activated my Windows XP. After 23 days I only had seven left. I can't see how the activation could have caused a problem!?!
Help! I have backed up several of my originals at light speed, but now find myself dead in the water on three different computers! Thanks!!!
Sudden death of LiteOn 1633s
