If you read this, two big things about marijuana is it doesn't damage the brain and has no tolerence meaning you don't need more to achieve the same effect ever. You can use the same amount and always get the same effect.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse said in its 1990 report on marijuana's pulmonary effects, that they found, "No difference in prevalence of chronic cough, sputum production or wheeze was noted between the marijuana and tobacco smokers (included within their study), nor were additive effects of combined smoking of tobacco and marijuana on the prevalence of acute or chronic respiratory symptoms apparent." (NIDA book, p. 65)
One reason they said it isn't different is because they affect different parts of the lungs, tobacco the small passage ways, marijuana the big ones.

Good parents or not, the outside world has a huge effect on teenagers. I spend much of my day at my High School and among friends, where both cigarette and marijuana use are extremely common. This, at a rich, 95% white suburban High school ranked among the best in the state.
The best way to prevent marijuana use is to stop demonizing it and actually study it. Many study groups are funded either by large cigarette companies, religious groups, or hippie-filled college studies which skew the results in all directions. A joint is neither 20 cigarettes nor is it the cure to cancer, it is a piece of paper folded around the hallucinagenic leaves of a natural plant used for millenia by humans. We need honest, scientific research to determine it's effects.
I personally have smoked marijuana on many occasions, and have recently quit (No withdrawal). The only effects I could notice were easy to overcome, a quick run got all of the nasty black shit out of my lungs. Honestly, it isn't good for you, but what is? It won't kill you, and I had a much harder time stopping my caffeine habit than I did stopping my pot habit, and I smoked daily.

Society does drive, my enviroment is different, my school isnt' public, but there is a good reason most middle class people send their kids to private schools, but my enviroment, parents have more effect on their kids, and our disciplinarian is really strict, like if you are caught after you've been put on probation, you may get suspension or expelled. But scientific research has been done, and Marijuana has many medical purposes.
Yes legalizing marijuana will be for the best for many reasons,
1) it will become more potent which is better since you will smoke less to get high
2) it will be under more control and safer to smoke since it is just marijuana and not mixed with anything else
3) children will be taught its for grown ups such as alchohal, but at least marijuana is much safer then alchohal

I agree, legalization would definitely be positive in some ways. There are other, less obvious ways it would be used, however. First, who would smoke cigarettes if marijuana were legal? Cigarette companies would be the first to capitalize on legalization, adding tobacco and most definitely nicotine to the mixture. Do you honestly think people would still buy bags of pot from less than trusty sources if it were offered at the gas station, prepackaged and ready to go?
But legalization would not end America's drug problems. Kids will still pursue that 'forbidden fruit', no matter what form it may take. Cocaine, heroin, LSD and mushrooms would simply become more prevalent. I just don't think legalization is the best idea.

These things are good for society.
It kills off all of the stupid people.
The only problem is the collateral damage.

Overly stringent drug laws also put thousands of (mainly) African American men into our overcrowded jail system, where the majority do not rehabilitate and where they continually pull money from our government to stay alive. Things are not in the best shape they could be in, not by a long shot. Something has to change.
