MAJOR PROBLEM. I think it's related to cooling or power....
Alright, here's the deal, I'm trying to put together a machine using spare parts from all of my old machines... I have an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ processor on a Soyo Dragon PLus motherboard. a Dell 20.gb Hard drive, 512 RAM DDR 333, an old ATI Video card ( I forget the model), and a small power supply from the old Soyo computer...
Here's the deal, Every time I get started running the thing, it will run just fine for a short time, I am trying to install Windows 98 on the machine, but I can never finish because between 1 and 5 minutes into running the computer shuts itself completely down and begins emitting a High pitched Alarm... I thought this might be due to a cooling problem as AMD tend to overheat, so I boguth a New Heat sink and Fan, twice as large as the old one. installed it, and, Same thing happened, still the shut down and alarm.
Anyone have any clue what I can do here? Am I better off just buying a new PC? or can I fix this cheaply enough?
