Post by Prakash kumar »

Hi Experts................ :( I have just started a job in a computer maintaintence centre..... but usually when i get any dead system, I cann't able to rectify that which of the essential parts either Microprocessor, RAM or the Motherboard is defective or has met with severe death..... So if there is any tip for identifying the defective part from the system please suggest me ..... I usually check these parts by inserting the parts one by one in a well running system........... Please help me ........... :?: :?:

mmmmmmm.....your technique is probably the only one available unless u have a processor emulator handy....... Get as much information about the machines problem/history....has anything new been added/what should links, switches be set to etc.......Start from the outside inwards....look for mechanical problems...loose connectors,(ide connectors can be badly made and cause problems).....is the psu ok/fans working......remove all additional plug in cards..have their sockets been damaged.......test memory cards.they are very sensitive to connection quality.....then processor........motherboards are tested on ATE equipment by the manufacturer......fully automated..computor checking computor. The low cost of parts also means little time can be spent going into technical detail.....its cheaper to swap about until it works. If the machine attempts to run then error messages should give you some help.......but replacing anything soldered in and surface mounted is unfeasible... See if you can find information on known common faults with particular machines..this may help if say one particular manufacturer produces bad power suppllies.... After a while you will get an instinct for what to do so relax a bit....most repair technicians felt like you when they started....... good luck....
