My Documents

Post by Tori »

Hi, I am new here, and not very good with computers! My computer needs rebooting, but the problem is that I can't get into 'My Documents' so all my files will be lost. Does anyone have any suggestions?

just fyi: rebooting is the same thing as restarting, as in "Start, shut down, restart" but try this...If you cant get into the My Documents folder normally, try to do it from safe mode. I dont know what operating system (Windows 95, 98, 2k, etc) you have, but in my 98 when it is starting, just after it starts the bootloader("checking for boot record from...), press F8, or F5(press only once!). It should bring up a menu with several choices. select safe mode and press enter, and it should load in safe mode. Use safe mode to back up any data you do not want lost in a reformat. If this does not work, post here again, and i may be able to walk you through the steps to reformat your hard drive. I dont know the actual case in which you believe it needs reformatting, however, if you are truly new to computers, it may just be a simple error or file corruption. post back here with any response to this, or email me at [email protected]

Thanks for the help. I tried doing what you said, but 'Safe Mode' was not an option on the list. I'm using XP by the way.
