Lite-On DVDRW LDW-451-s wont read Dual layers WHY??

Lite-On DVDRW LDW-451-s wont read Dual layers WHY??

This drive will happily read commercial dvd's that are single layer but not Dual layer. I have updated the firmware and that does make any difference. Any help suggestions appreciated.
