External drive not visible...
I had to bring in my Gateway Laptop for a replacement Cooling fan.
Since I need some of the files on my hard drive, the Techs at CompUSA where I brought the Laptop took out my HD, and installed it in an external USB case.
My desktop sees the case, but not the drive in it.
OS is Win XP Pro.
How do I make this drive visible? I have an external USB Hard drive that works without problems.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!
Before anyone tells me to just wait until I get the laptop back ---- I just found out that they don't make that type of Fan anymore, and they have to figure out how to fix this. The Gateway was 2 weeks out of warranty when it happened - that was 6 weeks ago.
I brought the laptop to Comp USA sometime Mid February.
They took out the defect fan - the processor is on the bottom of this fan.
At that time, the Tech told me it would be about a week - they needed to order a new fan and maybe replace the processor as well.
Then I got a call that it would be a while - it looks like the fan I need is no longer used, and they had to call around to see if they could get one.
I went over there and had the Tech remove the HD and put it in an external case, so I would have access to my files.
I used the computer (with one Fan still working) the evening before I brought it in - there was nothing wrong with it when I shut my computer down.
After we put the drive in an external case, and tried to access it, it simply won't show. And They still have not found a replacement for the fan either.
. It's still at the repair center.
Needless to say - Gateway is currently on top of my s****list.
