anyone know where I can dwnload a free copy of QBasic (v4.5 if possible).

tbh, it's probably better to start something else like C++ and kill yourself than Qbasic and get no where, Qbasic is lame and old really. But, you can do it if you want

you could also try starting out with somethiing that's simple like karel++ or c, then move on from there.
