Please Help !!!! formatting hard drive very slow

I have just FDISK my computer and now trying to format the drive. It is taking forever. I tried this yesterday and it was only 25% this morning after 24 hours. can anyone tell me what the problem could be. And how to fix. Thanks Spurg
