Help - Can't get laptop screen to come on

My laptop is definitely on. I can hear the CD drive spin everytime I press and hold the "On" button, but I can't get the screen to pop up. I can't even log off because if I pull the plug, the battery kicks in. What's wrong and how do I get the screen up. Help!

Duh. I just took out the battery and rebooted. Problem solved.
