Help! Mini-DV Camera upload.

Hello everyone, I was at the Shock Therapy Tournament last week doing a little filming. Well what do I know my Mini-DV Video Camera did not come with a Cable to Connect it and upload to my computer, So today I went out and spent $30.00 on a FireWire 400 PCI Host Controller. In the Box it came with a Chip with 3 ports and a cable and a manuel. I Installed the chip into my Mother Board and the chip/adapter. The computer scans the system and detects it, It did not come with any software of anykind. I plug my Video Camera to the cable and the cable to the ports, Nothing happens. Nothing loads or anything, I tryed turning my Cam on still no responce. The poorly made instruction manuel explains nothing about the installations, Would I have to download some kind of a software to upload to? I really want to Upload this video, What would you "Computer tecks" Recomend, because right now I'm lost trying to figure it out.. the camera did not come with any software of any kind iether.
