Computer does not recognize printer or plug and play devices

so idk why this happens...everything was fine but now my external hard drive wont work....the computer wont recognize it...im running windows ME...the worst operating system....any way under system devices, the hard drive is listed but not under my computer...so i cant access it or do nething with it...i got the printer to work but all my plug and play devices wont...please help

is the drive recognized if you put it in another computer?
