Something is really wrong

Post by AgentTuna »

Hi guys, this is my first post and im hopin i can get some help :) First off here are my computer specs 80 GB Harddrive 1 GB ram Nvidia 6800 OC 128 MB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 AMD 1.33 Ghz Anthlon XP 1800 thats the specs ok, well first off i have been having problems with this computer since the the first week of april and i guess i have been trying to fix it with the basic knowledge of computers i have and my brother's First problems were that i couldnt detect my videocard drivers, and well i called up nvidia after a few tries without any progress. and they told me to reformat(which i wasnt that happy with) so i reformated and it worked for a while, and then the same thing happend again. and then it got way way worse. the monitor wouldnt even turn on. so first i thought it was the montor and i borrowed an old one and it worked for a while and did the same thing, but i noticed that the cpu would get extreamly hot, and so i got a new fan and some thermal greese and viola, it fixed for about a week. after a while trying to put all my files back, it again started not to detect my video card. Frustrated, i deleted everything from the nvidia drive. and registry, and did reinsatlle dit all again. Now it works fine. then i felt like moving my sound card up ont eh pci buss slots and now im getting massive computer failure! first unmountable_boot_volume errors(whiched i fixed after a while) but now I cant even boot for longer than 5 minutes with out the box freezing on me. It makes this weird sound, and i cant tell what it is coming from or where it is. but its starting to annoy me that i cant even take information i need off of the computer. What i think it can be is from the sound card, but taht doesnt seem right. because moving a card from slots shouldnt really change the effect. even thought it thought i installed a new hardware device, but which i THINK i fixed since i had sound for a while before crashing on me with an annoying bleeping sound throught my headphones. Please any help would be nice. I Trully am getting very frustrated with my computer and any help will be very appreciated

From what you described towards the end, it sounds like your CPU is oveheating. If you have a coolant w/ fan... make sure it's running... if you have an ordinary heatsink w/ fan... make sure the fan is running as well. Open the box and boot it up... after a few minutes do you smell anything that resembles burned rubber? ... like I said, could be the CPU.

Sounds like you have a faulty GPU or the thing might be fried. Good idea would be to find your reciepts and send it in on warranty.
