A Lot of Popups

Post by sriggs »

Hi, I'm new here to Computer BB and i'm having a lot of trouble with popups. I have tried to stop this problem(with google toolbar and yahoo toolbar), but have had no success. I also think the popups are coming from inside my PC somehow, since they open when I'm not running Internet Explorer sometimes. Could anyone help me with this problem?

Have you run adaware or spybot? It sounds like you have spyware on you're computer. Here are links to free spyware removal tools, download and run the two above and let us know the results. Download the AdAware software, update the file when asked to, then run AdAware. Next download the Hijack this file from tomcoyte.com follow instruction, and post you're log I will look at it and try and help. You have been hijacked by spywear.

Keep in mind though that you need to do more than just get rid of your malware because if you don't prevent it from coming back, you'll have the same problem later. You've got your adware either because you use Internet Explorer for web browsing or because you've installed adware infested free software. You probably want to go for a better web browser: http://www.getfirefox.com.

Also, if you're running windows XP, you may want to consider opening up msconfig by running msconfig at the run prompt an unchecking any startup services that may look like spyware or adware programs. This will prevent them from starting when you start your computer.
