Disk error. plz help

I have a hard disk of 80 gb on which my system is working. I have another harddisk of 40 gb . when i join this harddisk my comp. shows an error -- disk error , restart the computer. i tried couple of things like changing the cable, formating it again etc. but it does not solve my problem. what can i do about it? i want to connect that harddisk with my working one. Help! HVC

Have you made sure the jumper is set for slave and the cable select is in the correct spot? IF this doesn't correct it please list both drive specs and we'll see what we can come up with

thnx for your suggestion but It does not solve my problem. Plz suggest something diff. Both HD are samsung puma. 1 is 80gb and the other is 40gb. help! HVC

Does the 40 gig work by it self? If not it could be bad.
