Windows Me...Please help!! No clue what to do

Hi, I just turned on my computer and got a nice blue screen which says : Windows An exception at 0E has occurred at 0028:C005FE00 in VxD ---. This was called from 0028:C1482BB3 in VxD ---. It may be possible to continue normally. blah blah blah ctrl alt delete press any key. When I press any key it says 'windows protection error, you need to restart your computer. System halted.' restart and repeat the above again. and again. you get the picture :X Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance

Ive got two harddrives running, so i installed win 98 onto one so that I could actually run dos on startup, Ive tried scanreg /restore and scanreg /fix on the drive with ME, but i'm still getting the same problem. anyone have any ideas?

This is from the link above try it then get back to us. RESOLUTION To resolve a Windows Protection error message: 1. Start your computer in Safe mode. For information about how to start your computer in Safe mode, view one of the following sections, depending on your operating system Windows Millennium Edition (Me) To start Windows Me in Safe mode, press and hold down the CTRL key while you restart your computer, and then choose Safe Mode on the Windows Me Startup menu. Troubleshooting Static VxD Problems The problem may be caused by a driver or VxD that is loaded from the registry. To determine if this is the cause of the problem: 1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. Click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Process Static VxDs check box. 3. Click OK, and then restart your computer when you are prompted. If the problem is resolved, the problem static VxD is being loaded from the registry. To resolve this problem: 1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. On the Static VxDs tab, click to select the first check box in the list. 3. Click OK, and then restart your computer when you are prompted. If the problem is still resolved, repeat step 1 through step 3, but click to select the next check box on the Static VxDs tab. When the problem returns, the last check box that you selected is loading the driver or TSR that is causing the problem. If the problem file is any of the following files, the problem is most likely with your network adapter: Vnetsup.vxd Ndis.vxd Vnetbios.vxd Vredir.vxd Dfs.vxd Vserver.vxd Ndiswan.vxd If the cause of the problem is your network adapter driver, contact the network adapter manufacturer and obtain a newer driver that works with Windows Me. If the cause of the problem is a hardware conflict, view the "Troubleshooting Protected-Mode Driver Problems" section in this article.

It won't let me start in safe mode, I still get the blue screen. Ive scandisked the Me hardrive using the win98 drive and clicked 'fix' whenever errors popped up, this caused me to get a different error screen on restart, but did let me onto the ME operating system...in 16 colour 640 by 480, when i attempted to change this by clicking 'display' in the control panel a white box message came up saying that rundll32 had caused an error with the display adapter. I restarted and now I'm back at the original problem. I then tried running step by step confirmation and saying 'no' at each Vxd, but still got the blue screen. Do you (or anyone) have any clue what I can do?

When you try to boot the ME hard disk do you press the F8 key to get into safe mode? If you can still get to the ME operating system you can try the clean boot option, see link below. If all else you can do a reinstall of ME from the setup on the CD disk, this will allow you to repair it. http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;192926

Yeh, I've been pressing f8 to get the menu up so i can select safe mode, holding down ctrl just brings up a stuck key error. What effect would reinstalling ME have? (if I can find the disc

Try tapping the F8 key as you boot up, just after the post screen comes up, not holding it down. As for reinstalling ME you should get the option to reinstall files when you go thru the motions, this will reinstall files in the current ME directory, but will not wipe out what you have on the disk. Sort of like a repair of windows

tapping F8 has the same effect as holding it down and I havent got the windows ME disk unfortunately. I'll try to get back into the operating system and do the clean boot thing. thanks
