Desktop crashes/minimizes

Post by insomniac2181 »

Hey, I just installed windows xp pro, fresh install. Everything went fine. That is until I installed my verizon software so I could get online. After I do this, it says I need Java Virtual Machine, and it installs it for me. After I do this I have to reboot my computer. Seems fine, after everything loads (taskbar icons appear), it minimizes. And I mean EVERYTHING minimizes. the icons, the taskbar. I cant see any of it. The only thing visable is the wallpaper. I can still CTRL+ALT+DEL and see that all the processes are running. I have no idea whats going on. Is the Java Virtual Machine causing this? Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

One of two things could be happening. Everything really is minimized, or explorer.exe has run out of memory or failed or whatever. What you need to do is do a ctrl-alt-del and go to the processes tab. Look for explorer.exe and try ending that process. Everything should come back when explorer restarts.
