[Resolved] Windows won't start up, plus worms

Post by superman123x »

Hi guys, Sorry I'm new here.....but since last week my computer won't start Windows (XP) After the black windows welcome screen, it goes to the desktop, but nothing appears. This is pretty embarassing, but to actually get onto the system, I had to press CRTL+ALT+DLTE to get the task manager, and then selected "new task" and clicked on something and choose "explore"...... I think it's this weird virus that keeps popping up after everytime I sign onto the internet. I've run Spysweeper and SpyDoctor several times, but it won't stop it. I've tried to delete it in safe mode, and overall - it's just in my system. Also I tried system restore and it says "system cannot restore." virus, worm or trojan? in C:drive called: hdds hs ks 1ks msdcom ALSO: the newest one is e8a = it looks like a compressed application. Then if you delete them and restart and log onto the internet, more items keep showing up (like above) on the C:drive Ah! Help! Now when I go on the net this keeps popping up..... http://217.170.4.137/_vti_bin/index.html C:\windowsxp\sp2\default.mspx C:\WINDOWS\update-sp3.html C:\WINDOWS\update-sp4.html Could someone please provide some helpful info on this matter? I posted at a different forum and they totally ignored me, LOL.

download a virus program to get rid. some of the more common ones get hijacked by some virusses [we had norton and we kept getting virusses but norton wouldn't detect them or kill them because a virus had replaced norton itself!!] If you are worried about more virusses downloading themselves whilst you do this try to borrow somebody's internet to download the program. Put it on cd or usb stick and install it on your computer. That's all i can suggest now. Hope it helps!

Oh do you know what the virus is? Google the name of it and there may be instructions on how to remove it without using your virus scanner. I reccoment AVG anti virus available from http://www.grisoft.com if you have a home pc and you don't use it for buisness they do a free version at http://www.free.grisoft.com

I would run a virus can, but start up in safe mode with network support. This will give you a more reliable scan. Here are some links, let us know if it helps, if not we'll go from there. http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/a ... ncipal.htm http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9435 http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

Wowsers, thank you so much for all the replies - you guys have been super helpful. Yes, I did run the spyware scans in 'safe mode' and deleted some registry files that wouldn't delete in the regular Windows start up. From there in 'safe mode', my system restore also worked. For some reason, it didn't work when I started Windows up regularly..... So yes, things are back to normal - thanks again. Kenny

Glad we could help, many spywear prorgams and virus will load programs into the normal startup files. This can inhibit normal removal methods, this way safe mode can help in the removal. :)
