Windows Longhorn Speed Hidden in Windows XP
Don't you just dislike waiting for Windows XP to boot up? Does the wait to enter "My Computer" seem to take forever? Well, you can either do 3 things about this:
a. Nothing.
b. Wait for Windows Longhorn, which has been promised by Microsoft to be much faster than Windows XP.
c. Integrate the speed of Windows Longhorn into Windows XP through a simple registry change that will be found in Windows Longhorn.
Here is an article saying how.
To make this simple, I will provide an easy to understand instruction list:
1. Open your Start menu and select Run.
2. In the Open box, type in "regedit". Then press OK. This should open up a "Registry Editor" screen.
(For Steps 3-10, use the folders on the left side of your screen. Each step will open up new folders on the left side. Within those new folders, you will find the next steps. Also, you double click on the text. If you want to single click, click on the plus signs once.)
3. If all you see on the left side of your screen is "My Computer", double click on it. If not, ignore this step.
4. Double click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE".
5. Double click on "SYSTEM"
6. Double click on "CurrentControlSet".
7. Double click on "Control".
8. Double click on "Session Manager".
9. Double click on "Memory Management".
10. Double click on "PrefetchParameters". (Note: The website with the article says this folder should be called "Prefetcher". However, I only had one folder under "Memory Management"; and "PrefetchParameters" had the 2 things I needed to perform this task.)
11. DO NOT CHANGE THE VALUE OF "EnablePrefetcher".
12. Right click in a blank space in the right side and role your mouse over "New".
13. You should see a menu spring from "New". Click on "DWORD Value".
14. Rename "New Value #1" to "EnableSuperfetch".
15. Double click on your new value, "EnableSuperfetch", and for "Value data", type in 1.
16. Restart your machine and enjoy awesome speed.
