Post by Tebow2000 »

Turn off that annoying Search Companion.. It takes up alot of CPU bandwith..

1.Start the Registry Editor
2.Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ 3.CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ CabinetState \
4.Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > String Value
5.Name the new value Use Search Asst
6.Double-click this new value, and enter no as it's Value data
7.Close the registry editor

Ever since I made a few changes in Folder Options for remembering the view settings of the folder I have had this annoying search companion pop up in the left pane in all of my general folders...the My Computer, MyDocuments, and My Network Places and such don't have this problem though, which is a good thing. However, for the rest of them...they don't open as the folders themselves...they just show up as an object in Search Results. Then you have to click "search" to retrieve the contents of that folder..I mean, it works and all...it just bugs me. I want the good old "click-on-the-folder-and-get-what-you-want-fast" routine back not all this search companion crap. Oh, and when I made the "remember view settings of the folder" it didn't work for that. When I clicked out of the companion and exited the folder then opened it again to see if it would remain in the view setting it had last been in that evil search companion came back...UGH. I tried that mod in the registry you suggested and that made it so that the appearence of the search companion was slighty reduced. If you know what I'm talking about and if you find a way to fix this PLEASE get back to me on this. Thanks.

Hi Dude Try this worked for me Open up the disk with the folder you want to access. Go to tools and the click folder options. Click file types tab and wait for it to load Click 'file folder' to highlight it then click on advanced on the same tab In the action box there should be 2 options find and open. If not click on new and in the action box type open in the apps box type explorer.exe click ok for all box's and try that. Hope it works.
