Need Help, Only Have 8 bit color

Allo I need a bit of help. My friends computer really sucks, She installed Windows XP Pro and cleared everything off her computer and now the color is only in 8 bit and we cant fix it. And yes i know how to change the display options but it will not let it go higher then 8 bit. Someone told me about drivers or something for it a few years ago but i cant mem >.< please help im only a blonde no matter how much i love my compy

re-install your graphic card drivers if you have one. right click my computer go to properties click on hard ware tab then device manager then click on display adapters in the drop down right click on the card it shows you click on update drivers wizard will guide you through the rest (use recomended) hope it helps
