Problems with runing a dvd burner and cd burner together

I just purchased a dvd burner and it works great, however before getting my burner i had a cd burner/dvd player and a plain old dvd player. I was trying to set it up so that just the cd burner and dvd burner worked, however my computer senses them as the same optical drive, an NEC Dvd burner, they will both work when this happens as far as reading cds goes, but windows boots slower and i basically end up having only one drive like this. However When i run the dvd burner with my plain old dvd drive it works find and the computer can sense that they are two seperate drive, it is the same way with the cd burner/dvd with the plain old dvd drive. Does anyone know how to fix this. Any replys would be greatly apreciated.
