Damn Adware

Post by AmaD »

Well, it could be adware or spyware, but anyway, i've got this annoying carp which once changed my homepage, makes some annoying toolbar appear and makes windows occasionly appear, in Internet Explorer of course, which is why I use Firefox. But, I don't want this stuff on my PC, and I've run Spybot 1.3 and Ad-aware 6.0, and Norton Anti-Virus 2005. Nothing seems to detect it :(

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

P.S Spybot found like 105 entries from one thing but they were just dodgy favourites that it had added to my bookmarks collection. :x

Right Click the toolbar on IE and uncheck that toolbar

Then go to Uninstall Programs and look through the list and see which ones would relate to that problem, and uninstall them.

Ok, i've disabled the toolbar, though it comes back sometimes. Spybot etc haven't found anything, I've found somthing which I don't recognise, and that's somthing called 'RTPatch' at http://www.pocketsoft.com .

I've also found somthing called WinPcap 3.1 Beta, which I haven't a clue what it does or how I got it.

I've just uninstalled WinPcap, because it's made by some spansi hsounding guy so I didn't trust it. It even came with an uninstaller... how nice of them... plus the total size of the WinPcap folder was like 300Kb, and one of the files was called daemon somthing :?

I HATE adware

Thanks for the help btw

Now i've checked my running processes, and even though I haven't got anything open, it says IEXPLORE.exe is running twice. If I try to close it, then it reopens itself. Also, my firewall keeps saying somthing about internet explorer or programs (including Counter Strike once!) trying to load strange .DLL files.

Even worse now, well, I opened my internet explorer folder in C:/ Program files and found IEXPLORE.exe. I renamed it to IEXPLOREt.exe and within seconds, another file called iexplore.exe had appeared. I tried it again and guess what, another one appeared. This is a serious problem as there's nothing I can do. Anyone got any more juicy help morsels for me? Which doesn't involve re-formatting...

Thanks mate, but the microsoft one is reported to remove IE completely from your PC. There's been articles about it

it's pretty user friendly so if ure careful I think you should be able to avoid that. You could get it just to see what it finds and then try to manually delete those files......
