My computer Should NOT be slow :(

Post by Liquidman »

Hey,
I was running a game today and I got annoyed when it was going slow; it felt like I was playing it on my old computer. Anyway, it shouldn't be slow, I have two 512MB sticks of Kingston hyperX and a radeon 9600 XT (128MB). Why is it going slow? Could it be something to do with my CD drive? The CD is the only old component in my computer, everything is almost brand new and I would expect it to run this game...

You might have spyware on, I have some form of spyware which I can't get rid of and it says there's two IEXPLORE.exe's open, hen I don't even use internet explorer. That, on average, uses 20Mb of memory (or around 20,500Kb). The minimum specs for rise of nations are:

Win 98/2000/Me/XP
P450 required
128MB RAM required
16MB video card
300MB HD space

so you should be running it fine :?

Failing that update your video drivers and the version of direct x you're using and hope for the best... also run spybot and ad-aware just in case.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Ad-aware

and I'm running 40 processes. Including Norton, MSN messenger, C-Media mixer for sound, eMule, Media player and Firefox

if its spywhere run spywhere removal... but i doubt that is the problem
you have plenty of ram so i wouldn't worry about that

i've used 800mb(only having 512mb) ram, so i was well into virutual ram, then started UT2004 sure it lagged a bit, but that is what happens on multiplyer games

I have no idea what it is...I would post my hijack this log but i know how much that pisses people off. I guess I'll run spybot and see what's going on.

I found Ad-aware SE picks up loads more spyware item than Spybot did, I'd recommend that if you're going to try to remove spware and the like.

ad-aware and spybot both pick up different things

like spybot gets the DSO exploit where ad aware gets tracking cookies and so forth.

Download the newest drivers for your video card.
