why is my computer not starting? please help

I was using the computer then i walked away for awile and when came back it was tured off, so i turnd it back on, and after a while i went away again and when i came back it was tured off again, and now i cant turn it back on. The little LED on the motherboard is lit up but the computer wont turn on when i press the button. but every once and a while when i press the button it will turn on for a split second and back off agian. i built this computer about 6 months ago and it has been working fine for me until now, im not sure what is wrong with it, could somebody please help me, thankyou.
(btw i do not use any power saving modes)

Either the psu is bad or the cpu is overheating

Try a different psu and reseat the cpu

Also, remove all un-necessary pci cards

Listen for any beep codes

Try resetting the CMOS and load up from there.. That should reset any modified settings in it and should start you up fine. This will not reformat your harddrive..Your motherboard manuel should tell you how to do this.. It's a simple switching of jumpers and you dont even have to use turn on and get into the BIOS to do it
