Serial ATA is an evolutionary replacement for the Parallel ATA physical storage interface. The Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) is the group responsible for developing, managing and driving adoption of the Serial ATA specifications. Users of the Serial ATA interface benefit from greater speed, simpler upgradeable storage devices and easier configuration.

Serial ATA allows up to 150MB/s.
ATA allows up to 100MB/s.
Raid comes in 3 common forms.
The first spreads data on 2 hard drives for 2x the speed. (Raid 0)
The second copies data on 2 hard drives resulting in a backup drive. (Raid 1)
The third is a combination of the last 2 using a total of 4 drives. (Raid 0+1)
There are many more forms of RAID, but these are the most common.
SATA hard drive systems have built in RAID.
The 150MB/s is not needed since 7200RPMs barely reach 100MB/s unless if you have a Western Digital Raptor. (The only SATA hard drive to run at 10,000RPMs.)
