Ram problem

Post by ashleygarrett77 »

Hey guys,

I have just built a new custom built pc and everything has gone fine but after xp professional was put on and a few of my games were put on such as halo ect my pc went really slow! I looked in the task manager and my pc was using 486MB ram. Usually it will only use 144Mb or something round that. It goes away when i restart my system but always come back every time i use the cd rom! I have asked many computer shops and ther people to look at it and everybody doesnt know why. The only things i can put it down to is a bad direct x install from one of my games or something like that or a hardware conflict between my DVD Rom my cd writer and my HDD. I really would be greatfull if anyone could give me any suggestions! :?

No i only have 26 processes running but the problem i am having is on my first startup of the day i get the same 26 processes as i usually do when my problem isnt happening but they all just use loads more memory. EG if the computer is doing the problem msn messenger uses 32,000 KB of ram and when it is not it uses 8,000KB of ram. Im confused and so is everyone i have asked! The closest i have come to an answer is mabye a fault with the ram itself? or the Sloti have it plugged into. It only seems to happen if the pc has been turned of for more than about an hour. Mabye its because the ram is on the way out and when it has not warmed up and faults.

Im really confused and tonight i think i am just going to try taking the ram out and putting it in the other slot. if it still happens im going to borrow a 512DDR of one of my mates and see if its a problem with the memory! If not were back to square 1
