win 98se, downloads problems

i have a pentium 3 600mhz,128mb ram computer with 98se, i have a broadband connection but when i go to download large files a blue screen comes up and then exits the download. also when my files do download the .exe and zip files are always corrupt is there anything that can help these problems?
