Broadband Modem causes crashes

After installing a ZOOM (5510B) ADSL Broadband modem in my Compaq N600C laptop I had to uninstall it as it was causing the screen to freeze or (more often) the laptop to crash and restart by itself (and then crash and restart again). I did manage to get onto the net (twice) for about 10 minutes and things looked to be working well - until the laptop just crashed. Any ideas what could be wrong and even better how to fix it would be very much appreciated. Terry Woodward
