Computer starts, then shuts off...Need help......

Here is the deal...I sold my computer on ebay and something must have happened in shipping because when the buyer got it, they said it just wasn't starting. I really didn't feel like going through all of the hassle with them thinking that I gave them a bad computer so I just told them to return it and I'll give it back to them. So I don't know if the computer was damaged in shipping or what, but it only turns on for about 3 seconds or so and then it sound like it shuts off. The monitor says entering power saving mode. The computer is a hp pavillion a350e. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hmm not too sure what that could be about...you sure youre screen is plugged it properly? My friend had the same problem with a monitor of his. It turns on then goes into sleep mode a few seconds after... The only thing I could suggest is change your monitor...because i doubt it's coming from your pc...you could always ask a friend to connect his monitor to your pc and see what happens and vice versa... Sorry i couldn't help much, and best of luck to you!

Yea, I tried changing the monitor, but that doesn't work. If anyone else has a suggestion I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Open the case and reseat all the boards, check all power connectors, something may have come lose in shipping.

I'm not that much of a genius with computers... How exactly do I reset the boards?

When you open the case look for any cards that may plug in. Just remove the screw and pull the board up, out of the connector strip. Then push back in, firmly, but don't force. Then re screw the screw, some computers have one plug in board, some have several. Check all ribbon cables too, going into the drives. Gently use you're fingertip and push down on each one and make sure they are seated.

Ok, I tried unhooking all of the boards and seeing if everything is plugged in right and it is still doing the same thing. I'm think that maybe it is going into standby mode or something because it just turns off right away. Any suggestions???????????

computers are not compex ghosts of mystery we all believe them to be. They execute a set of instruction in the exact same order every time. If a computer fails to "boot", you must return to basics. Will it at least perform the POST (power on self test) test? If you see a bunch of DOS info, the computer is doing the POST. This only takes a brief period of time. Try this: Leave nothing plugged to the mainboard except-main power-CPU power(if needed)-and remove all of your PCI cards. And, make sure no drives are plugged in. You should now (after boot) see an error message. It will ask for a system disk or any variation. If not-you have some core hardware issues that cant be fixed here. If you see the message-the error is in the boot sequence of your main drive. Some damage may have occured in shippment-try formatting the drive and reinstall windows. Hope this helps.
