dvd-rw and dvd-r wont work at same time

my dvd writer and dvd rom wont work when connected to pc at same time. i've have being using just my dvd writer and now when i put any kind of cd or dvd in its as if it isnt in can any1 help me with this. i checked the drivers and their up to date and workin properly.thanx for the help

Check to make sure the jumpers are set right, one must be master and the 2nd as slave. They must be on the right part of the cable too

they are set right i had 1 as master the other as slave then i swaped them round to see if they would work that way but they didnt.they both work when only 1 of the data cables are connected.but not when both are connected at same time
