I just received the Zebrav4 patch, I haven't had enough time to test it yet, but from what I've heard, it should be really good.
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ 411s@811s EEPROM repair tool to improve upgrade: (v4.0) ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Included in the package:
* Patcher.exe (for EEPROM modification only)
* FlashFix.exe (for modification of official firmware only)
* LTNFlash (for reading and writing of your EEPROM)
* This .nfo file!
i) Things to be aware of:
• This modification technique fixes the MAJOR problems with the other ods. DVD-R
(minus or negative) writing @ 2X and 4X is now possible with 411S@811S. It fixes the
freeze on lead out issues that were synonymous with the previous modification technique.
It goes without saying, it also fixes 8x & 6x writing, to the
best of the current build can accommodate.
• An EEPROM is like a drives unique fingerprint – it is fine tuned for any given drive.
Putting a real 811S EEPROM right onto your 411S is just plain silly.
• This patcher corrects missing 8x and 6x calibration data, missing from the 411S drives.
• This EEPROM patcher is also a checksum correction od. Hence, it
will allow you to use the REAL Liteon windows flashers
• If you patch your EEPROM with this patch, you can go back to a 411S drive at any time
via the use of LTNFlash and a .bin of the latest 411S firmware, or even a flashfixed
official 411S Windows flasher. LOGICALLY, you MUST put your original EEPROM back on the
drive also!
• Lots of talk about the “Safe” tool has materialised. While this od if MUCH safer
than the previous od of modification that originated from the Polish,
nothing is totally safe. It is naïve to think that ANY over clock is safe.
• As every laser diode is unique, every calibration is so. But it will work for 99% of people.
The other 1% - this issue is being worked on
• At this time we do not know if ALL DRIVES laser diodes are rated for the needed power
at 8x (ca. 30mW). It could potentially be overpowered as it's only 4 (ca. 18mW).
We will know one day if the first drives fail permanently. Its unlikely however
• UNDERSTAND THIS: IF YOU HAVE A PREVIOUS MOD ON EEPROM - you NEED to use the ORIGINAL EEPROM.
Do NOT TRY AND PATCH THIS ONTO AN ALREADY MODDED EEPROM. USE YOUR ORIGINAL.
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ii) Instructions
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
• Backup current EEPROM using LTNFlash. Put it somewhere SAFE. Make many copies and put them
in places where they will never ally be overwritten!
To do this, run LTNFlash, select the 411S, go to the EEPROM tab then hit READ, then SAVE.
• Open the patcher (patcher.exe) from the command line. Have a copy of your original EEPROM in the
same DIR as the patcher.exe
• Run the patch tool on the EEPROM by calling the patcher at command line, then typing the name
of the original EEPROM, with the file extension, then typing the name of the new EEPROM
you wish to create eg:
C:/MyStuff/Patcherv4/
patcher myEEPROM_original.bin myEEPROM_modded.bin
• Accept the warnings - if you dare. Be aware of what is being said!
• Once finished, run LTNFlash and using the EEPROM tab, LOAD the newly modified EEPROM into LTNFlash
then WRITE the new newly modified EEPROM onto your drive.
• Download the latest firmware from LiteonIT's home page - at current time of writing, the newest
official firmware is HS0K.exe available from the page.
• Use the tool FLASHFIX to run on the firmware once downloaded. It is included in the package.
If you have problems understanding flashfix, read its readme file!
• Once you have run flashFix on the new OFFICIAL firmware you downloaded from LiteonIT's website
run the windows patcher (HS0k.exe for example) and accept the warnings. BE VERY CAREFUL TO FLASH
THE RIGHT DRIVE!
• Once the drive is finished programming, a forced reboot will occur!
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Your EEPROM is now corrected for 8x +R writing. You can now use REAL Liteon firmware's on your drive
as they are released!
NOTE: The patcher tool is to be run from the COMMAND LINE in a DOS command window. You CANNOT run it
via double clicking! If you do not understand this, please lookup a guide on the lamerweb.
Finally - if you break/hurt/mame/destroy/melt your drive in the process of your tweaking/OCing adventures,
DONT be a selfish little twerp! BUY A NEW ONE - DONT WHINGE TO LITEON FOR A REPLACEMENT! YES, BUY A NEW ONE.
The company gives the enthusiast community a great deal of pleasure! The least you can do is be honest and
buy a new one if your adventures result in a nuked drive.
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
iii) GREETZ
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Big thanks to the whole beta team and those involved with the creation of this mod. Without you, NONE
of this would have come to fruition!

Ok, greet job !!!, do I put the drive in particular position to do it ??? secondary master/secondary slave .... did it work fine ???,
in fact are you satisfied and did you test drive reading/writing dvd/cd ???
is it really 8x writer for R+ now ( with supported media of course...) ???
now a little think I don't really undertood, future officials 811's firmwares must be modified by the "fixer" before loaded into the drive is it correct ???

Make sure you select the correct drive.
Tu dois etre certain que l'engraveur tu veux "to overclock" est le 411s. Si le selection est un autre engraveur, l'autre engraveur ne marche pas rien!

Yes, it will really write at 8x.
Oui, il peut ecrire a 8x si le media est compatible.

Well, this is not true, i just downloaded the HSOP firmware, from the page, and didn't use the flashfix, the drive flashed fine, you only have to use flashfix the first time you're converting your LDW-411 to LDW-811.

Forced 8x burning
First off, huge thanks for the v4 mod ccb056! Worked great.
The question I have is whether or not it is possible to force an 8x burn on 4x or even 2.4x media. I have 'CMC MAG-F01-00' TDK media which is capable of 4x writing and I think it would do ok at 8x.
Also, will there be an eeprom patch that allows 8x dvd-r burning as well (like the SOHW-812S)? Or has too much changed in the hardware?
Thanks.

the only way I know how to overide the SMARTBURN technology is through ALC0H0L 120%, I dont remember exactly where, but there is a setting for overriding recomended write speeds
As far as another patch for dvd-r @8x, I dont think it will happen.
EDIT: We have a forum member working on a patch here to disable burn speed limitations

Require LtnFlash utilities
Hi ccb056, require the LtnFlash set of utils. Thanks for very useful info. I hope it works on my 411s!!! Cheers.

Thank you so much for the instruction I am in process of doing it right now, some how I have stocked on item No. 7 & 8 of the instruction. First of all how could I run the patcher.exe?, when I click on it opens in matter of mili-second and then disappeared. I would appreacite little more explaination on items 7 & 8 of your instruction and how to patched to two eeprom (411s & 811s) together.
Thanks

P.S. Where do I get the 811s from? to be patched with eeprom of 411s?. Please note I only one 411S and one LDR-52x24x52 CD-RW.TCAS wrote:ccb056;

Thank you so much for your iformation and an effort you have tried to explain the procedure, but this part of it is not cut and dry to me and some how I can't digest it. May be I should give-up the upgrading for the time being. I just do not understand how you can patched the 411s eeprom with 811s eeprom where there is no evidence and indication that we do have eeprom for 811s in our hand. How we get eeprom for the 811s I don't get it.

you dont need the 811 eeprom
the 411 eeprom is very similiar to the 811 eeprom
if you have the v4 patcher, there is an exe called patcher
you to run patcher, you need to go into start-run- and type "cmd"
this will bring you into command prompt "if you have 2000 or xp
once in command prompt, you will need to navigate to the directory which patcher is
once in that directory, you will execute patcher, with a command after it
this will patch the 411s eepro, that you extracted from your 411s
the patched 411s eeprom will be the 811s eeprom after patched
once you have the patched 411s eeprom, which == the 811s eeprom, you will flash it to the drive

Can I update a Buslink?
I just purchased a Buslink DVRW 412RD, which I understand is a rebadged lite-on 411S.
Can I upgrade it via the patch?
If so, where can I get the necessary tools?
I hope this is the right place for my question?

Reporting for 411SX
Just finnished the upgrade of the 411SX(the external model). I did not remove it from the enclosure, and it seems that the upgrade went ok. ive burned one R+ of verbatim media at X8 and tested it in my Philips DVD955 (also used the bitsetting utility) and it worked ok. As the media only is X4 i asume the smart burn prevented burning at X8 (timed about 4 GB at about 10 min), but the good news is that thre is no "meltdown", the burner is recognized as 811 and burning works fine. Wil try a X8 media tomorrow for final overclocing testing.
Thanks for help and patches

Even I promised that I let go the Mod for the time being, but I can't help myself not to do it with such cear and wonderful instruction you have give to every one. Some have I have struggled so much and still have problem processing the following portion of your instruction:
"Run the patch tool on the EEPROM by calling the patcher at command line, then typing the name
of the original EEPROM, with the file extension, then typing the name of the new EEPROM
you wish to create eg:
C:/MyStuff/Patcherv4/
patcher myEEPROM_original.bin myEEPROM_modded.bin
• Accept the warnings - if you dare. Be aware of what is being said! "
I don't know why I can't get through this portion. When I write the path as you described, the massege says " This path can not be find in your system" or "patch is not part of Internal.bin or external.bin.
Some how I must not doing some thing right. However I will keep trying.
Meanwhile I thank you for your patient and your effort to help me and other. Because of you and your willingness to help other I have made this forum my regular several times dailyvisit forum.

patching:
1. in one set of the instructions you use ltnflash to 1. read the eeprom, 2. save at several locations (as for backup). when saving i used the name "eepron" and the file is saved as eepron.BIN.
2.In the next step copy the patcher.exe to one of the folders you saved the eepron.BIN file into.
3. start the MS-Dos shell (dont know what its called in english, Command line? when in command line browse your way to the patcher and eepron.BIN file. now type "patcher eeprom.bin modeeprom.bin". The reason for the error is most likely that the patcher.exe and your eeprom is not in the same dir. Or as i recall the file extension is *.BIN and not *.bin, dos can be case sensetive.
if patcher.exe and eeprom is not in the same dir you have to guide the patcher to the right path. eg "patcher C:\mystuff\patchv4\eeprom.bin C:\mystuff\patchv4\modeeprom.bin"
I'm unsure if its bin or BIN, please correct if i'm wrong

Re: Reporting for 411SX
Bummer, Yesterday the drive worked ok, today arggg.. well not that bad. Yesterday i burned one disk at X8 but the burning seemd to slow for X8 (Smartburn? the disk was a verbatim R+ X4). today i tried a new disk, but i could not choose X8, only X4. Smartburn is disabled and the recorder is identified as 811 in nero, but no X8. I can still burn at X4, so no crisis, but...arghh any sugestions?margido wrote:Just finnished the upgrade of the 411SX(the external model). been dioing some reseach.. it seem you can do X8 on X4 disks if the firmware is hacked. Anyway the strange thing is that the first disk (verbatim X4) could be burned in X8 (i choosed X8 in Nero), but with the meromrex i can only chose X4. maybe the verbatim was a lucky shot. X8 disk are hard to get at the local shops, i wil try again. I supose the mod went ok, but got a little confused by the the media....

a way to bypass smartburn is to use ALC0H0L 120%, there is a checkbox somewhere in there
the reason the images dont work is because we moved to a new server, and havent got all the bugs worked out yet, ive changed the address, they should work now

Disabling SmartBurn
I tried ALC0H0L 120% with the "turn off auto-select best write speed if possible" and it didn't seem to make any difference whatsoever. Too bad...
margido:
Do you know of such a hacked firmware that effectively disables smartburn? It might be kinda fun to waste some perfectly good 4x media trying to burn it too fast.

Zebra4 firmware
Could someone Pm me this firmware complete. Thanks in advance!
Well the trick is not actual desabling smart burn (in nero look under recorder-->options-->smartburn) as i understand you must hack (hex edit) the firmware and cange some values for exact your media. some have custom made firware for eg. memorex X4 media and so forth. i have a masive workload at the moment, but if intrested check these forums:
http://www.speedlabs.org
cdfreaks.org
http://forum.rpc1.org/
AND THIS:
"If you dare, accept the possible risk, can handle a hex editor and burn a .bin with the flash tool from the sticky tools post you could simply patch the firmware to allow burning these media @8x.
Warning: Patching firmware is nothing for newbies! I do not have a LDW851 drive so I do not know if the firmware uses checksums. I know by personal experiance that the LDW411 FS0F, LDW811 HS06 and HS0E firmwares do not perform firmware checksum checks, so patching them right causes no problems. I also know that this speed patch works with the LDW 811 firmwares in principle.
To patch the mentioned media to 8x you only have to ...
1. Get a LDW851s GS08 or GS0A .bin file, the following addresses are valid only for this firmware and the 1 MB .bin file.
2. At address $c0000 you will find many DVD+R media codes. If you do not see them, just stop here.
2. To burn MCC02 disks @8x change $C00B3 from $06 to $1e.
3. To burn RICOHJPNR01 disks @8x (I think your "RICOHJPBR01" is just a typo) change $C0135 from $06 to $1e.
4. Make shure that you only changed this two bytes by comparing the patched .bin file with the original, e.g. using the command line tool "fc".
5. Get the "flash tool" here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?threadid=83441
6. Back up your current firmware.
7. Flash the patched firmware.
8. Post your results and have fun.
EDIT: the given addresses also fit for GS0A
"
this is one post at the cdfraks. as you can se its for spesial brand and manufacturer. so you need to some investigation to find your brand of media/manufacturer. Search for hacked+firmware in the liteon boards.
