I NEED HELP WITH PHP ASAP!!!

Sorry for the all caps headline, but I need help as soon as possible. I'm supposed to have my server up and running in a couple of days and I still can't php5 working right with apache 2. I try to load the php screen, but it asks for me to download the source code, and when I try to load php files, it asks me to download them. what is the problem? Is there something wrong with my httpd.conf file? please help.
