firewire/motherboard strangeness

Post by wingsoffire »

I recently got an new (new for me but technically old) PC and the firewire situated on the front of the case wasnt working whilest the 2 USB ports were, when I opened the case I can see two wires leading from the small board with the 2 USBs and firewire port, one is plugged into the motherboard, the other isnt, nor does there seem to be any place on the mobo to fit it. Do I need to buy a card that I can plug the firewire into? I have a Microstar ms 6339 motherboard. I really don't get why packard bell would install a firewire port without anywhere to plug it into...

According to MSI's website (and assuming I got the right board), your motherboard does not have any type of firewire capabilities built-in, and you will need to purchase a firewire expansion card. Here is the link to the motherboard listing on MSI's website: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_sp ... O&class=mb
