Transfer of programs/files

Just purchased a new PC (running windows xp home edition) & want to transfer programs & files from my old PC. (running windows 98 2nd edition) Apart from removing the old hard drive, is there any other way? Thanks

Well, I can recommend you to try my way: If you want to keep windows XP, you may create partition (FAT32, Primary) on new PC (which size mustn't be smaller then size of data you want to transfer). Use True Image to create an exact image "clone" of your old HDD and save it on it. Then put old HDD into new PC as slave, and restore image from old one onto new partition. You'll get Windows XP with all your data from old PC. Therefore file system in your partitions, XP can see all in FAT32. So using this soft, it'll take you about 30 min. I know it by my own experience: it very easy to do, as True Image has convenient intuitive windows wizard. I've never thought that such amount of work could be done without any problem, till I found this software. Good luck!

Thanx "Phobia" for the information, but I was thinking along the lines of maybe I could connect a cable between the 2 PC's and transfer 5GB of data this way. Is this just wishful thinking or hopefully, possible? Any replies would be much appreciated.

Thanx "richh0323" for your help but unfortunately my old computer has no ethernet connection. Is it possible to do it via USB connection?

The other option is place you're old hard drive in the new computer change it to a slave drive and copy the files over to you're new drive.

There's a deal in my new Dell catalog called PC Relocator. It is an easy migration software tool that includes the USB transfer cable in the box. It's a little better than typical migration tools because you don't have to transfer everything as an "image," which always includes all the problems and malware from your old hard drive, making it counterproductive. Instead, you can pick only the programs, files, and settings you want to transfer over, and you never have to open up either computer's case. Just install PC Relocator on each machine, hook up the USB cable between them, and the wizard will help you with the rest.
