Tell me all about MCSE certification.

I recently took a job that requires obtaining my MCSE within a year. My real-world job experience most recently was 5 years as Network Manager of a four-site, 500 employee business, with primary responsibility for all IT infrastructure (switches, routers, servers, etc). Thats why I'm wandering around forum. It seems like all these so called vendor neutral certs are actually windows certifications. A , N , security , even CEH etc..... 90% of their materials are all microsoft based you study a little about unix/linux. apple mac doesnt even exist. Anyways, the reason of my posting here is to want user's review on MCSE exam and its preparation.
