System freeze error

Post by LakotaWolf »

Hi guys.. my PC keeps randomly freezing for no apparent reason. If I leave it on overnight it'll be frozen by the time I get back, and (pretty much once a day) it locks up on me, regardless of what apps are running at the time. I'm beginning to think it's a hardware problem, because i've done pretty much everything software-related I can think of. System specs and things i've tried: Specs: AthlonXP 2000+ Tbred Zalman CNPS7000b-AlCu CPU cooler Asus A7V333-X MB 2x512mb TwinMOS DDR PC3200 RAM Radeon 9600XT 128MB with Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 2 80GB 7200rpm Western Digital HDD 8MB Cache (Boot Drive) 200GB 7200rpm Seagate HDD, 8MB Cache (partitioned 100/100) Windows XP Pro SP2 Things i've tried: -Defrag both drives -Full system virus+spyware scan -Full format of boot drive and clean install of Windows, and upgrade to SP2, all updated -Checked power connections for hard drives, none loose -All system temps at stable levels I'm thinking it could be a faulty hard drive, although the problem has only begun in the last few months, and I haven't added any new hardware for a good 6. Any suggestions for testing or troubleshooting would be appreciated! Thanks very much..

Try removing one stick of ram then try it for a day, if it crashes try the other stick for a day. I find ramdom problems are mostly due to memory problems, or un compattable ram.
If I could remember all I have forgotten, I would be a smart man.

Video Card?

Post by mitchb13 »

I've found that whenever the screen freezes, it's usually a video related problem. You weren't specific on what you tried, have you tried different video card drivers?
