Install Netbeui Protocol under Windows XP

Post by ccb056 »

NetBEUI is by far the fastest protocol but it is becoming much less implemented in production environments because of it
lack of routing capabilities. If you have a need to run XP in a NetBEUI network, you can use the following procedures
even though Microsoft does not support it (officially). NetBEUI is not included in the list of protocols for
Windows XP.

Oddly enough, Netnbf.inf and Nbf.sys, needed to install NetBEUI are included on the XP installation CDROM.
To install:

Click Start

Click Control Panel

Double-click Network Connections

Right-click the adapter to bind NetBEUI

Click Properties

Click Install on the General tab

Click Protocol

Click Add

Click Have Disk

Insert XP installation CDROM

Open \Valueadd\msft\net\netbeui folder

Click on Netnbf.inf

Click Open

Click OK

Click OK to complete the installation

Don't call Microsoft if it does not work. They don't support it.
