Restarting?

Post by Smartweb »

Does restarting a lot damage the components over time?

it is better to keep the computer on

technically, any strain, such as restarting, causes components to fail

Yeah, but I've got 3 OS's installed and like to switch around a lot.

I'm forced to cold boot once a day. My parents worry more about their electricity bill than my parts' lifetimes.

If your parents are worried about the elec bill, shut down the power to your sister's room, that should save alot of money

A computer only uses about 300W of electricity at full load.
A lightbulb uses 75W, each.
4 75W lightbulbs = PC at max load.
> 75W lightbulb = Idle PC.

I'm not saying that I think a PC takes up more electricity. I'm saying that my parents won't believe that it doesn't.

So, in other words, your parents don't trust you?
