I found this nice article from PCWorld.
So what does this mean?
Itanium = High End
Xeon = Low End
By this time, there will only be one Itanium core (Millington, the successor to Montecito would have died out).
Here is a little about the 2007 core.
Intel Tukwila (formally known as Tanglewood) IA64 CPU is expected to be introduced in 2006 / 2007. Tanglewood is the multi-core (>2) successor to Shavano and is expected to be built on a 0.65 micron process and possibly contain 32Mb L3 cache.
It is said it will have 4 cores (most likely at 2-3GHz each).
The problem is that Itanium, being on the same socket as Xeon, will become very popular.
AMD, however, plans to launch the K9s around the same time.
Let us just hope the onboard North Bridge can handle this.
