Dual Core Opteron Update

Post by Aggressor Prime »

Ok, AMD has completed their dual core Opterons. Each CPU will have 2 of today's CPUs. That means you have double the cache 1, double the cache 2, double the memory controllers, etc. Also, the Opteron dual cores will come out in mid-2005. This is also the time Socket 900 comes out for the K9 series that will support DDR2 technology. The Athlon 64 FXs with dual cores come out in the 2nd half of 2005. And the Athlon 64s and Athlon 64 Mobiles come out with dual cores by 2006. My favorite part about this is the memory controller setup. You will have 4 800MHz Chips responding to one CPU. That is 3200MHz!!! Too bad Intel can only go to 1600MHz.

Read here for more information.
Athlon XP 3200 3DMark05 Score: 3460 GeForce 6600 GT 3DMark05 Score: 3132 14304 SETI Results: Athlon 64 2800 Athlon XP 3200 Athlon XP 2100 Athlon XP 1800 Pentium 3 Celeron 667MHz If you haven't played Descent 3, you aren't a gamer.

it wont be so cool when you see the Price tag ;)

double the L1 and L2 caches alone is a nice price increase, much less dual cores, I would say this will kill the amount of CPU's (the core/s anyway) per wafer.
