help!! internet :x

im running xp pro sp1 i recently installed it. once i got everthing working such as internet games drivers etc i tried to get on microsoft.com for updates. i try to get on and it loads forever and doesent like show up and some time it gives me an error cannot be displayed. the same thing also happens with hotmail and a few other sitessuch as msn, msn messseger etc. i dont no what to do becuase i need my email and i need updates and other thing. i tried these sites both on ie6.0 and mozilla fire fox and i had no luck. i allso have a linksys
wrt54g wireless router and the same problem happens through out my hole house.

any help would b great

i tried even pinging the sites and it gives my 3 timed out errors[/img]

what internet do you have, because for Cox Cable they gave me a set up cd to configure the internet for my computer.
