Removing Files From Win98SE Startup

I want to know how to just load Win98SE and nothing else when I boot my old compaq, my friend had done that on a really old computer, he upgraded to 98 , and it loaded in 30 seconds, i have a P2 he has a P and mine takes a few minutes to load. There is nothing in the startup file in the startmenu so how do i go into the ocmputer and remove everything from startup but the OS.
