Big thanks! It worked great... and you owe me a 4x dvd+r disc. :-/
Yep, 8x was too much for this media. Don't worry, I'll ruin another one later with 6x.

I think I will write a little app that modifies the firmware. It will display the supported media and the max speed for each and allow you to set the speed how you like. BTW margido, do you know what all the speed settings are? I've figured out these:
02 = 2x
06 = 4x
1E = 8x

I assume 6x is 0A or 1A, I'll try later. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. The app will also have the ability to extract the bin image from an installer exe, or modify the exe directly. This is fun. :)

Tell me what you guys think of this idea.

To keep everyone posted on result of my 411s@811s, I just finished copying a full disk DVD Video (4.5GB) using Memorex DVD+R(RICOHJPN R01) 4X at the burning speed of 8X (11080KB/S). The burnt DVD played in my JVC N55SL perfectly and flawlessly. The burning process for the full DVD video took 8 minutes.

Again thanks to ccb056.

Speed Greed?

Post by revolutn »

I'm wondering if anyone has tried this successfully or UNsuccessfully from a drive that was originally a 401S?

In other words has anyone with a drive that was successfully upgraded 401S>411S also then been able to to go from the hacked 411S>811S?

Thanks,
Rev

Call me naive but why would you go through all these steps to covert your LDW-411 to and LDW-811 when the price difference in only $11.

Zebra has found you....

Post by zebra »

.....

Did you think I would not find you all after a little trawling? My people informed me of this site - and the fact that a certain forum admin is PMing the package I created to the masses who ask for it......

The fact that I have even had to make this post is not a good thing, I can assure you.....

With all due respect - not clever. AT ALL.

There are concrete reasons this mod was developed and released at http://www.speedlabs.org under the provision that one would register to obtain such information.

I do not expect you all to understand the logistics behind such a decision, but it is most simple to say that the REASON we have been able to get away with modification techniques that I implemented for so long was because we were responsible and controlled in our distribution methods.

Liteon KNOW about all of these goings on. This just serves to inflame the situation. If they find out about this particular instance - your forum WILL be shut down - and nobody wants this...=(.

I ask you politely - please, cease this spreading action - and for the love of god - TAKE THE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS OF THE DAMN PAGE....

If you refuse to comply with the requests of the man that made this mod a reality....well, I doubt you will listen to anyone....but, fair game, there is a good chance Liteon will find you and make things nasty for you. :(

PS - ccb056 - please, dont get me wrong here - I am not ANGRY about what you have done here, I realise you are just trying to do the right thing by your forum and help people out - which is a great thing...but the fact is, it breaks several rules of our distribution policy and will ultimately make us all a little worse off. I hope you understand.

So, what do you want me to do, stop hosting the file?

I was not aware that there were certain "rules" for hosting the file, nor have you posted any in your message above.

Why would Liteon try to shut down the site? I understand that it is wrong to send back a drive that you broke, but I don't see a problem with modifying something you've bought as long as you take responsibility for your actions. If you want, you can PM me and we can move this discussion to a private session.

ccb056:

Have you come over to visit and post @ speedlabs yet? Do you still doubt my authenticity? [Sorry, I just find it comical].

Ssseth - please tell the guy I am real. Tell him I wasnt joking when I told him that LiteOn shut sites down on a regular basis for publically disclosing the mod....

ccb056 I have been talking with zebra and I totally agree with him.
They have been very careful since the beggining. It would not be the first time a large company like LiteOn shut someone down.

The entire team that put together the mod took allot of time and effort to do it. You should respect the authors wishes.

ccb056 wrote:*Here* are the files for converting/overclocking you Liteon LDW-411s to a Liteon LDW-811s DVD Burner.

Instructions for overclocking your Liteon LDW-411s to a Liteon LDW-811s

1. Obtain the patch
2. Unzip "411s @ 811s"
3. Open LTNFlash and read the LDW-411s EEPROM (you download LTNFLASH with the patch zip)
4. Save the LDW-411s eeprom by clicking the "Save File" Button in LTNFlash
5. Repeat step 4 at least three times, saving to different locations (eg: floppy/hdd/network hdd)
6. Save one copy of the LDW-411s firmware on your desktop
7. run "patcher.exe", browse for the LDW-411s eeprom file that will be patched to a LDW-811s eeprom file
8. Click the start button
9. once the LDW-411s eeprom has been patched to a LDW_811s eeprom, it will make a backup copy of the LDW-411s eeprom
10. open LTNFlash again and load the modified eeprom (the one that was patched to a 811s)
11. then, select the correct drive, and write the modified eeprom to the correct drive
12. select a patched firmware and flash the drive with the patched firmware using LTNFlash
13. restart your computer

Congrats, you have overclocked your Liteon LDW-411s to a Liteon LDW-811s

*edit* PM me if you want the patch
