Upgrading your memory.. as in your RAM modules? (PC3200 etc)
If you upgrade you ram modules there is no need to reinstall any software, or any other applications. The OS doesn't care about your Ram, but the motherboads BIOS does.
Bottom line.. Changing ram modules will have no affect whatsoever on your OS or applications/software within the OS.

To the best of my knowledge (and please correct me if I'm wrong)..
The only 2 pieces of hardware that would require you to reinstall drivers and/or reformat would be a new HDD or a new Mobo.
I have swapped out CPU, RAM, Floppy drives, DvD players, CD/RW's.. and many other different devices, and have never had to reconfigure anything.
However..
If you install a new motherboard, there is a very good chance that you will need to reformat your HDD, but sometimes.. for reasons unknown, it'll boot up and run like a charm. I have never been able to install a new mobo and have the old HDD/OS boot up and run, but I was at a friends house and watched it happen to him.
